Jesus' Disciples  --  Can you name all twelve?  What do you know about each of them?  Come let us introduce you to the twelve apostles...

Andrew
     Sharer of Christ
Text:   John 1: 35-51
Memory Work:   Daniel 12: 3

Andrew was from Bethsaida on the shore of Galilee.  During the ministry of Christ, Andrew and his brother Simon Peter worked as fishermen out of Capernaum.  They were partners with James and John, the sons of Zebedee.  Andrew is known as the Sharer of Christ, bringing people to Christ.  The first person he told after hearing John the Baptist, was his brother Simon Peter and they left their fishing nets and followed Christ to become fishers of men.
 James

Full of Zeal
 Text:   Luke 8: 41-42;  49-56
Memory Work:
Galatians 4: 18

Remember, James is the brother of John and the son of Zebedee.  We have already found out they were fishermen from Capernaum.  When James and John are mentioned together, James is always mentioned first, because he was the eldest (oldest) son.  James and John, along with Peter formed the inner circle (closest) of friends of Jesus.  They personally witnessed Jesus praying Jarius' daughter back to life.  They were present with Christ during his transfiguration and in the Garden of Gethsemane when He prayed before being betrayed.  James was the first and only apostle whose martyrdom was recorded in scripture.  In 44 A.D., King Herod had James beheaded.  Full of zeal, James served Christ.
 John
     Disciple of Love

 Text:   John 19: 17-27
Memory Work:
1 John 3: 18
We have already learned that John was the younger brother of James, the son of Zebedee.  He was the writer of the gospel of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John and Revelation.  John was a dear and loved friend of Jesus.  He was possibly the youngest of the disciples.  John loved Jesus very much and was always close to Jesus' side.  During the crucifixion, John was at the foot of the cross, standing with Mary, the mother of Jesus.  He cried from the cross telling John to care for his mother as he would his own.  What a legacy to leave behind, to be the beloved of Jesus.  "Bestest Friend"

Peter
     A Natural Leader

Text:   Acts 2
Memory Work:   Matthew 16: 16

Simon Peter, the brother of Andrew, was also known as the "Rock".  Peter was a devoted disciple of Jesus.  He would have done anything for Jesus.  Peter is usually the one listed first when the apostles are named.  Peter's faith in Christ's command allowed him to walk on water; yet, his disbelief caused him to begin sinking.  Peter led the meeting on the Day of Pentecost that resulted in 3,00+ souls being added to the Church.  Are you a leader like Peter?

Matthew
     Disciple Who Left It All
Text:   Mark 2: 13-14
Memory Work:   Matthew 19: 29
Matthew, known as Levi, the tax collector, had a nice, comfortable job.  His life seemed to be just great.  Then one day as Jesus passed by, He said two simple words to Matthew, "Follow Me".  Matthew left it all to follow Jesus.  This was the best thing that ever happened to Matthew.  Dis he make more money and become richer by following Jesus?  NO, but Matthew understood there were things more important than money.  Will you follow Matthew's example and follow Jesus today?

Judas Iscariot
     Lover of Money

Text:   Matthew 26: 47-50, 27: 1-4
Memory Work:   I Timothy 6: 10
Judas was the treasurer, keeper of the money, for the group.  He was the betrayer of Jesus.  He sold Jesus out for 30 pieces of silver.  What else is there to say about Judas?  His love of money led him down a road to destruction.  Don't go down that same road!!!
